Introduction: The Struggle is Real!
Let’s be honest—working from home is a blessing and a curse. On one hand, no morning commute, no awkward elevator chats, and yes, pajama pants as office wear. But on the other hand? You blink, and it’s 5 PM, and the only steps you’ve taken were to the kitchen for more coffee. Sound familiar? Girl, same.
Before I got my walking pad for Christmas, I was getting less than 1000 steps a day during the week (and getting fatter as a result ngl)
But now? I can hit my daily 10,000 step goal without even leaving my house.
If you’re looking for simple ways to hit 10,000 steps a day while working from home, keep reading. You won’t need fancy gym memberships, and yes, you can totally do this while binge-watching Netflix.

Why Bother Hitting 10,000 Steps a Day?
Walking is seriously important for your health, and here’s why. When you move your body and get steps in, you’re doing yourself a big solid!
Walking helps keep your heart strong, fights weight gain, and gives you way more energy throughout the day. It’s like a simple way to boost your overall health without needing fancy gym equipment or complicated workout plans.
Your body is designed to move, and sitting all day can mess with your health big time. Walking helps lower your risk of serious stuff like heart disease, diabetes, and even some cancers.
Plus, it’s amazing for your mental health – walking can reduce stress, clear your mind, and help you feel more positive.
If you have PCOS like me, walking is also a great low-impact form of exercise that can help you get rid of that extremely stubborn PCOS belly!
Basically, walking is magic. So, get those steps in, girl!
How to Get 10,000 Steps a Day Working from Home
1. Get a Walking Pad (Game-Changer!)
I cannot stress this enough—if you work from home, a walking pad is a MUST. It fits under your desk, it’s quiet, and you can walk while answering emails or watching YouTube (multitasking, but make it fitness). If you don’t have one yet, check out these options:

This is the walking pad that I have! I love that it is pink and it goes up to 4mph! I’ve had it over a year now and have had no issues with it.
Start by walking 30 minutes a day while working—before you know it, you’ll be hitting your daily step goal without realizing it!
2. Do YouTube Walking Workouts
When I’m low on steps, I love doing a quick indoor walking video on YouTube. These are low-impact, fun, and surprisingly effective. You can get 5000 steps doing these workout and they go by surprisingly fast, especially if you put a show on too!
Some of my favorites:
- Walk at Home by Leslie Sansone (the OG of indoor walking!)
- Grow with Jo (great for beginner-friendly, high-energy workouts!)
- MadFit’s Dance Walks (because walking should be fun!)
💡 Pro Tip: Do a 10-minute walking video between meetings or a 30-minute video during your lunch break. It adds up FAST!
3. Solo Dance Party
Turn on your favorite playlist and just GO FOR IT. No fancy moves required, no judgment, just pure fun. You can literally dance in your pajamas, during work breaks, or while doing chores.
Blast some upbeat music, shake it out, and watch those steps add up without it feeling like exercise.
Throw your hands in the air, do your most ridiculous moves, and dance like no one is watching.
Want to make it even better? Create themed dance sessions – like a 90s pop hour or a Beyonce power hour.
You’ll be surprised how quickly 15-20 minutes of dancing can rack up steps and boost your mood. Plus, you’re burning calories, reducing stress, and having a total blast all at the same time. Win-win-win! 💃🔥
4. Set a Timer & Walk Every Hour
Let’s be real—if you don’t remind yourself to move, you won’t. So set a timer to get up and walk for 5 minutes every hour.
🚶♀️ Easy Step Boosters:
- Walk around your apartment between Zoom calls.
- Pace while on the phone (a 30-minute call can easily add 1,000+ steps!).
- Walk during TV commercial breaks (old-school, but effective).
- Get up and march in place (yes this counts as steps!)
I wear a Fitbit and it vibrates on my wrist every hour to remind me to move! It also tracks your daily steps well and is an affordable alternative to an Apple watch.
Download a step-tracking app (like Fitbit or Pacer) to keep yourself accountable!
5. Walk & Talk
If you’re constantly on Zoom, switch to audio-only for some meetings and walk while you talk. Whether it’s a work call or a catch-up with a friend, walking while talking is an effortless way to rack up steps.
6. Go on a “Hot Girl Walk”

This is not just a walk—it’s a vibe. Put on a cute outfit, grab your favorite iced coffee, and power walk through your neighborhood like the confident queen you are. It’s not just about the steps—it’s about the mood boost and prioritizing your wellness.
I truly don’t care who sees me dancing and singing as I walk! It’s fun to be in your own little world!
You can also habit stack and listen to a motivational podcast while walking. Lately I’ve been enjoying Because I Love You with Bria Jones or the Mindset Mentor podcast.
