I didn’t always hate going to work. I started out as bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as any other fresh college grad. But slowly after about a year, I started waking up thinking “Wow, you really hate your job.”
Nothing crazy happened, I’m just not happy. Realistically, my job isn’t all that bad. There is the usual office drama and politics but the managers aren’t complete asses and I’m paid well for what I do.
What’s the issue then?
I have no passion.
The biggest reason people hate their jobs, even if they can’t pinpoint it just yet, is they don’t feel good doing what they do. They don’t feel purposeful or personally satisfied with what they’re doing for 40 hours every week.
Understandable. Without passion, the busy work and constant tasks are going to become fucking annoying after a while. That’s where I am at. I’m finding it harder and harder to stay motivated and my happiness has taken a nosedive.
With the current state of everything, I don’t see myself leaving this job anytime soon. Plus, I really wanna get my shit together and figure out this online entrepreneur thing so I never have to interview for another job again. My dream is to be my own boss! I’m not going to keep wasting time building other people’s empires when I can build my own.
I’ve been fighting to keep my sanity with some different strategies that I hope will help anyone else in the same boat. Things will get better for all of us! *Crosses fingers*
How Not to Go Crazy When You Hate Your Job
Plan Your Escape
I firmly believe you should not be complaining about your situation if you’re doing absolutely nothing to change it. If you hate your job, then leave it. It’s easy to stay at your miserable job because you are comfortable but is that really how you want to live your life?
Start sending out job applications, network for opportunities, hop on LinkedIn and update your resume, start your side hustle that will allow you to be your own boss. Set a date for when you went to leave and do whatever it takes to make that happen.
Take action whatever it is!! If you’re not trying to change things, you’re truly not that miserable.

Make Friends with your Coworkers
My coworkers are the only reason I’ve lasted so long at this job and they keep me from going completely crazy. My office is pretty young and we all get along super well. We joke, we laugh, we hang out on weekends.
I’m not saying you have to be that close but having an office friend or two is good for your mental health. It sucks to spend 8+ hours a day in an office where you can’t have friendly convos with people.
Listen to Music
Music gets me through the day when I’m bored at work! You’ll often find me dancing at my desk lol. Make an awesome happy playlist to play when you’re getting into your FML mood. I find it best to try to fight off the negative thoughts with feel-good music before I get in my feelings.

Leave the Office for Lunch
Your lunch hour is your chance to get out of that place so take it! Just being out the office and getting some fresh air can be rejuvenating and get you through the second half of the day. Also, you are surrounded by your coworkers so much that sometimes you just need some alone time to decompress.
Have a Moment in Your Car
Idk if anyone is on the same misery level as me, but sometimes I JUST HATE IT THERE. Lol like I think about getting in my car at lunch and never returning. Instead, I get in my car and give myself some time to be mad or sad or frustrated. I go on a rant all by myself and def feel better afterwards lol I might be crazy but it works!
Don’t Dwell in Misery
I don’t purposely sit around and try to be miserable at my job. I am actively trying to fight away those dark clouds because I know they’re not good for my mental health.
Remind yourself of the benefits of your job and try to have a positive outlook. Like I wouldn’t have met some of my closest friends if I never had this job!
Be Grateful
Sometimes I reality check myself like “do you know how many people would kill for this job, bitch??” I am grateful that I have a stable job and income that allows me to save for my next chapter in life.
Remind yourself that there are unemployed people searching for months for a job, so you’re lucky to be employed. We all know the job hunting process is the literal worst.
Exercise
Nothing can beat a really good workout to get out pent up frustration. I personally like working out alone at home and doing kickboxing workouts on Youtube. I exhaust myself throwing angry punches at my imaginary punching bag. Yea, again, I know I’m crazy lmao…Am I crazy if it works, though? ????
